It’s Just Physical

Every single person longs to be loved deeply, to know and be known intimately.  In our culture, we often confuse sex for love and separate God from the equation and yet the deep longing for intimacy persists.

Could there be an intrinsic connection between love, sex, and God that we have missed?

BAD ADVICE part 5

Relational Desire: to experience intimate, life-giving, character-shaping relationships that have a rugged commitment to one another.

How in the world do we have that kind of relationship?

How are followers of Jesus to go about relationships

IT’S JUST PHYSICAL

America’s Sexual Ethic: My BODY, my RULES.

The Result: A society SATURATED with sex & yet STARVING for intimacy.

The Root Issue: We’ve compartmentalized SEXUALITY & SPIRITUALITY.

SEXUALITY & SPIRITUALITY: 1 Corinthians 6:12-14;18-20

  • The right to do whatever you WANT doesn’t make whatever you want RIGHT.

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial.

  • SELF-CONTROL not SELF-INDULGENCE is a mark of freedom.

“I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.”

  • ALL of you, not just PART of you is meant for God.

The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.

  • Sex is MORE than just about SEX.

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

  • Your BODY is the temple of GOD.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Relational Wisdom:

It has never been just physical, and so I will HONOR God with my BODY.

APPLICATION:

How do I honor MY BODY & YOUR BODY as very the temple of God?
