Love: Treasuring Jesus

After the birth of Jesus, we are told, “Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). Why was she treasuring these things in her heart? Obviously, she was treasuring the moments of being a new mother, but on a deeper level, she understood something to be true of her son: that he was the gift that would bring salvation to the whole world. Through Mary’s story, we see what love is and how we can receive God’s love: through treasuring him as a gift to us and for us.
