In the story of creation, after God saw all that He had made, He said it was “very good.” But as He watched mankind grow, He said that it was “not good that they should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). Thousands of years later, when Jesus was leaving the earth, He made specific statements for His followers to stay together as a unified group of disciples and friends.
