In the Presence

More from Behold

Teaching Notes

How are we to enter into the presence of the King?

How do we encounter God His way?

“Our primary purpose for coming into the house of God ought to be to have an encounter with God.”

- Henry Blackaby

IN THE PRESENCE

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;  the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Isaiah 6:1-8

In the presence of God, REVERENCE is the only proper response.

  • Look UP: refocus your heart on who God is.

What comes into your mind when you think about God?

Seated on a throne

High and Exalted

Train of His robe

Holy, Holy, Holy

“Isaiah…saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.”

John 12:41

  • Look IN: release anything that’s keeping you from God.

Confession: “to own up to a condition of the soul”

- Dallas Willard

“Until we have seen ourselves as God sees us, we are not likely to be much disturbed over conditions around us as long as they do not get so far out of hand as to threaten our comfortable way of life.  We have learned to live with unholiness and have come to look upon it as the natural and expected thing.”

- A. W. Tozer

  • Look OUT: respond to God’s call on your life.

“Here am I. Send me!”
