In His Image

Genesis 1:27 (ESV)
“So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.”

I have read Genesis before and enjoyed it. Yet the verses that were discussed this past week at Awakening really hit me hard and opened my eyes to something that I had always known, but never really fully understood. We were created in the image of God. We are a reflection of Him. This is such an amazing truth! We are a reflection of the one and only mighty God. Just let that soak in a little bit… YOU are a reflection, a manifestation, a careful thought of God, the Creator of the universe. He set us apart from all other creation and made us in His own image.

I found this very humbling. And when I think about it, I cannot help but worry about how I have not always been a good example of Christ. I have not always acted, lived my life, or treated others like I was made in the image of God. This is partially because I am human and not perfect. It is also partially because I do not know God fully and understand what it looks like to reflect him.

Through the knowledge of my imperfections and ignorances, as well as the new insight I have gained into the nature of God, I have been convicted to live my life more intentionally with the people I come into contact with. I want to show them God’s love through my actions and love. I believe that it is my job to be the hands and feet of Christ to those around me, because I was made in His image and He saved me!

We are relational beings, and it is inevitable that we will have relationships. I encourage you to live intentionally with everyone that you come into contact with and to see each encounter with others as an opportunity to share the love of God. Be intentional. Live a life that makes a difference and brings light to this broken world.
