Teaching Notes
How do you embrace a messy spirituality that actually makes a difference?
The Confession of Messy Spirituality:
I am a MESS.
I can’t UNMESS myself.
Only JESUS can.
THE MESSY MIDDLE
- The Problem: I brought my old MESS into my new LIFE with Jesus.
- The Process: God’s solution is not GUILT, but GRACE.
The grace of God is not only the beginning of the Christian life; it is the beginning, the middle, and the end.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…”
Romans 8:1
CONVICTION vs. CONDEMNATION
Justification: In Christ, you have a new standing and a new identity—You are declared righteous, fully forgiven, completely accepted, and adopted as a beloved child of God.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
Romans 5:1-2 (See also Titus 3:4-7)
Sanctification: The lifelong process of learning to live out what is already true of you in Christ through the empowering grace of God.
Memory Verse:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
- The Promise: What Jesus BEGAN, He will COMPLETE.
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6
