How do you leave a legacy that lasts?

 

NOAH | LEAVING A LEGACY | Genesis 6-9

 

Context: Dysfunctional at Every Level

Marital | Adam & Eve: Sin fractures intimacy with each other and with God. Introduces pain, disconnection, and domination. 

Familial | Cain & Abel: Jealousy and anger turned deadly; Cain murders Abel.


Societal | Lamech: Lamech boasts of revenge killing and institutes a policy of retaliation. Violence becomes a virtue.

Global | Humanity: Corruption is celebrated. Injustice is institutionalized. Wickedness is no longer the exception; it’s the expectation.

 

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled… But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Genesis 6:5-6, 8

The legacy you’ve been HANDED doesn’t have to be the legacy you LEAVE.

 

He named him Noah and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” 

Genesis 5:29

 

  • Legacy starts with your AUDIENCE.

 

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Genesis 6:8

 

God has GRACE eyes for you.

 

Whose approval are you living for?

 

For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

2 Chronicles 16:9

  • Legacy is built in the UNSEEN places in your LIFE.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

Genesis 6:9

    • Righteous PERFECTION

    • Righteous = INTEGRITY

You cannot PASS ON what you do not POSSESS.

 

  • Legacy is the byproduct of FAITHFUL OBEDIENCE.

 

Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

Genesis 6:22 (Genesis 7:5)

 

    • Embrace the MONOTONOUS.
    • More is CAUGHT than TAUGHT.

 

THE COVENANT-KEEPING GOD:

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Genesis 9:13
