Teaching Notes

How will you measure your life?

What you MEASURE reveals what MATTERS.

How do we live lives that others are grateful for?

The Principle:  We REAP what we SOW.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

2 Corinthians 9:6

  • What you SOW determines what you GROW.
  • We reap in PROPORTION to what we sow.
  • We never reap in the same SEASON that we sow.

The Practice: Generosity is not LOSING but SOWING.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver

2 Corinthians 9:7

4 Words to Guide Your Giving:

  • PRAYERFUL Giving
  • PRIORITY Giving
  • PERCENTAGE Giving
  • PROGRESSIVE Giving

The Promise: God’s PROVISION for those who PRACTICE generosity.

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

2 Corinthians 9:8-10

  • God will ABUNDANTLY pour out His BLESSING on you.
  • God will meet your every NEED, not your every GREED.
  • God will give you MORE so that you can give MORE.

The Power:  Generosity turns your life into one OTHERS are GRATEFUL FOR.

You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

2 Corinthians 9:11-15

GENEROUS People, People are GRATEFUL for.
