We have a God who cares about every single child…

Dear Awakening Church Family,

Through this Love Local series, I have been reminded what a beautiful thing it is for God’s church to engage in the restoration of the world. When we, the people of God, meet the needs of those around us, we are part of God’s restorative work. I’m so grateful to be in a community of people who are passionately seeking to care for the people in our city.

This weekend as we finish our Love Local series, we will be joined by Courtney Berry, the East Bay Director of Advocates at Foster the City. As we partner with Foster the City, we get to be part of a growing movement of churches committed to providing a loving home for every child in the foster care system.

Currently, there are more children entering foster care than foster families ready to open their hearts and homes. The statistics look bleak, but we have a God who cares about every single child and knows their name. Throughout the Scriptures, we see God’s concern and the church’s mandate to care for the vulnerable. In partnership with Foster the City, we believe that the church is uniquely positioned and called to answer this need. There is an opportunity for everyone to do something to care for these kids and families.

There are so many ways to get involved with loving our local community at Awakening, and my hope for our church as we wrap up this series is that we would each follow the Spirit’s prompting to take our one next step to join in the restoration work that is taking place in our city caring for the unhoused, vulnerable children, and those struggling with food insecurity. The need is great, but when we are moved by compassion and we all participate in what God is doing, the impact will also be great.

Thank you for engaging in this series and taking your next step to care for the people around you. See you Sunday as we learn more about caring for kids in foster care together.

Awakening Church is hosting our annual winter coat drive! Please join us in partnership with City Team ministries by blessing someone in our community with a NEW or GENTLY USED winter coat or jacket. From November 30th – December 14th, bring your items to church on Sunday and drop them off in the bins outside of the doors. You can also click on the Amazon link below and have them delivered! Thank you for partnering with us and CityTeam to care for our unhoused neighbors!

We believe Del Mar High School isn’t just a place to meet on Sundays, but a community to serve and love.

Awakening has a yearly giving fund to help resource Del Mar High School students and their families experiencing significant needs throughout the school year.  Alongside school administration, the local outreach team provides resources with great intention and care that alleviate short-term crises. This year our goal is $35,000, which will continue to allow us to serve our Del Mar High School family, and to do so in the name of Jesus.

Last year’s impact from your giving…

  • Over 24 vulnerable families served
  • Financial assistance for families struggling with food insecurity and housing crisis
  • Day care assistance for teen mom seeking diploma
  • Replacement of stolen bike for student needing daily transportation to school
  • Housing assistance for refugee families
  • Job assistance for students to help pay for long-term family needs
  • Crisis care following apartment complex fire

Donations may be made by selecting the “Special Projects – Del Mar Fund,” with up to $35,000 dedicated to the Del Mar Giving Fund.  All donations outside of this period or in excess of $35,000 during this time period are allocated to the Unrestricted General Fund and will be used as approved by the Leadership Council. We exist to awaken this generation to new life in Jesus Christ.

We’re so glad you’re here! If you’re new to Awakening, we would love to get to know you and for you to get to know us! The best way to do that is by filling out a Connection Card.

WE’RE HIRING!

We’re hiring a part-time Kids Ministry Assistant to work 10 hours a week and support our Family Pastor by helping to execute Sunday kids ministry. The Kids Ministry Assistant will also assist with church events that involve kids and their families, and help in other areas of kids ministry as needed. If you are interested, please email our Family Pastor, Ashley!
