For the last forty-five minutes, Gungor’s “Beautiful Things” has been on repeat. Every time I listen to it, I hear something that I don’t remember hearing earlier. As I type, “you make beautiful things out of the dust” sticks out. Genesis 2:7 (NIV) says, “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” Dust is everywhere. Although it is not the most beautiful thing I can think of, God chose to use it to create his children. His beautiful children. How incredible is that?!
Later on in the song, “you are making me new” is repeated. The first time I heard this song, I sobbed. I found it so hard to believe that God had made me beautiful and was continuing to make me into a new creation. I think back to all of the decisions, mistakes and choices I’ve made that lead me to where I am right now. God is continuing to make me beautiful. He’s doing the same thing for each individual being at this very moment. So often, I feel so unworthy of the love that our Heavenly Father just lavishes on us.
I’m praying for you all. I pray that you feel God’s love this week and, in turn, you would love others the way that Christ loves you. You have been made into a beautiful creation and you were created for a purpose. Don’t ever forget that.
